Celebration of ONE WEB DAY on 22nd September 2011 at RCCIIT
OneWebDay (OWD) is an all-volunteer campaign to build an active community of internet users around the world. Originally imagined as a celebration of www- the services and content the Internet carries – OWD has grown into a movement of organizations, citizens and consumers who are committed to universal and equal access to the Internet and is celebrated on 22nd September every year.
In 2010 it was celebrated engaging Student community in a blogging competition along with a discussion on IPv6 implementation which is the core for further expansion of Internet.
This year, ISOC Kolkata Chapter in collaboration with Computer Society of India (CSI), Kolkata Chapter & RCCITT celebrated the OneWebDay by organizing a seminar on 22nd September, 2011 at RCCIIT premises.
Theme of Seminar: Internet Privacy
Speakers:
• Prof. (Dr. Saikat Maitra), Officer-in-Charge, RCCIIT gave the welcome speech
• Mr. Anupam Agarwal, Associate Consultant, TCS and Chair, ISOC, Kolkata Chapter discussed on the days’ theme “Internet Privacy”
• Mr. Hrishikesh Bhowmick, Assistant Professor of IT Department gave a presentation on “Legal frame work for Data protection”
A Panel Discussion was held on the topic “Privacy – How relevant is it for India?’ Participating members were:

The seminar was successfully organized with total 72 student participants from RCCIIT, 11 faculty members from RCCIIT, 1 faculty members of IESWM, 2 faculty member from MCKVIE and 15 members of CSI. Participation certificates issued by ISOC and CSI were distributed to all the participants.

It was very good opportunity to be a part of OneWebDay celebration with a seminar conducted in our college in collaboration with Internet Society (ISOC) – India Kolkata Chapter and Computer Society of India (CSI), Kolkata Chapter, on 22nd September, 2011.
This seminar raised among us the awareness on the privacy and security of data in the Internet. It gave us an awareness of the birth of Internet which was unknown to most of us. The seminar was interactive as well as informative. If we get an opportunity to attend in this type of seminar in near future then we are glad to attend it.
